Board of Public Utilities warns of credit card scam

BOPU 1-29-20

Customers of the City of Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities (Board) reported receiving fake credit card charges from someone impersonating the Board today. Several customers reported small denied credit card charges that were from the “Board”. Based on our customers feedback, it appears credit card thieves are impersonating the Board and are using stolen credit card information.

The Board does not keep records of credit card numbers and all credit card payments are made through a 3rd party vendor. Some of the reported customers have never made a credit card transaction with the Board.

The Board encourages customers to be vigilant against impersonators by checking their credit card statements and working with their credit card provider.
