Human Rights Advisory Council Withdrawn

During Monday’s City Council meeting the controversial human rights advisory council was withdrawn from the agenda with no further discussion on the matter. Following the statement from Mayor Rick Kaysen, those in attendance showed their approval of the decision.

The advisory council sought to provide dialogue around civil rights and national and local issues surrounding human rights facing the LGBT community. Mayor Rick Kaysen acknowledged the proposal wasn’t a popular one following public debates.

Also during Monday’s city council meeting, they approved the date for the special election on whether to establish a city administrator form of government or keep the mayoral form of city government. The ordinance passed on the third reading, 7-1. Councilmen brown was the sole council member to vote no, not because he doesn’t want the public to vote, but doesn’t agree with the way the ordinance reads.

The date for the special election is Tuesday, November 10th
