Longtime Fugitive Arrested In Wyoming

After evading arrest for nearly 28 years, 58 year old Benigno L. Galeno-Negreros is in custody after being involved in a crash southwest of Casper, Wyoming.

On April 16th, around 5:00 a.m., the Wyoming Highway Patrol was dispatched to investigate a crash on WY 220 approximately 46 miles southwest of Casper. With the assistance of the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office, the investigating trooper was able to locate varying forms of identification for the driver who had already been transported to Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. Through the course of the trooper’s investigation, the driver was identified as Benigno Galeno-Negreros.

A National Crime Information Center check revealed an arrest warrant for Mr. Galeno-Negreros for felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon out of Houston, Texas. The warrant had been active since July 15th, 1987. Wyoming Highway Patrol Dispatch verified that the warrant was still active and that authorities in Texas would extradite Mr. Galeno-Negreros from Wyoming.

Mr. Galeno-Negreros was arrested by the trooper and taken to the Natrona County Detention Center in Casper after he had been released from the hospital. Mr. Galeno-Negreros had evaded arrest for so long by using different aliases and dates of birth. At the time of his arrest, Mr. Galeno-Negreros was being held on a $100,000 bond awaiting extradition back to Texas.
