National Signing Day Success for the Cowboys [AUDIO]

by Keith Kelley–4 Feb ’15

Wyoming Cowboy football coach Craig Bohl and his staff put together their second recruiting class in Laramie.  Last year, it was quick turnaround for the staff to get the best talent possible in a short time frame.  This year, they’ve had a full season to recruit, and it seems to have paid dividends for the program.  The second class for Bohl and company includes 23 signees from 11 different stats.

Some of the highlights with this class include Wyoming first ever recruit to be named to the Parade All-American Team in running back Kellen Overstreet.  Also, the Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year, wide receiver C.J. Johnson, and the Colorado Player of the Year, Andrew Wingard, from Arvada.

Wyoming needed to address some issues on the roster, and one of those was overall team speed.  And Bohl believes they got what they wanted in the category.

Another deficiency for the Cowboy football team was defense.  In this class, Bohl and his staff concentrated on that, and signed 14 of the 23 players on that side of the ball.  They include four defensive lineman, five linebackers and five defensive backs.  But Bohl says it was definitely something that needed to be addressed.

Wyoming also signed a pair of in-state players, as Natrona County’s Josh Harshman (linebacker), and Logan Wilson (defensive back), were part of the group of 23.  Six others from the Cowboy state will be preferred walk-ons, including Cheyenne East’s Ben Wisdorf, and Cheyenne Central’s Tayton Montgomery.

As far as all the stars and accolades go with this class, Bohl isn’t concerned with all of that.  He says that he wants a player that fits the “Wyoming profile”.
