Public Invited To Give Input On Prairie Avenue And Frontier Mall Drive Intersection Project

City 3-13-17

The public is invited to an open house meeting Thursday, March 16 to learn more about a proposal to build a one-lane roundabout at the Prairie Avenue and Frontier Mall Drive intersection. The intent of the project is to improve safety by reducing the high crash rate at the intersection.

The meeting is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Staybridge Suites, 5109 Frontier Mall Drive. The format of the meeting will be an open house. Project displays will be set up around the meeting room and the public can talk one-on-one with project team members and submit comments.

The proposed roundabout was recommended by the Cheyenne MPO Dell Range/Section 20 Corridor Study in August 2014. The Prairie Avenue and Frontier Mall Drive intersection has an unusually wide median, making it more difficult for drivers to cross. The geometry of the current intersection appear to be the cause of at least 25 crashes. The study determined a roundabout is a better solution for improving long-term safety than installing a traffic signal at the intersection.

For those who are unable to attend the meeting but would like more information about the project, please contact Scott W. Smith, City of Cheyenne Projects Information Officer at 307.638.4338 or scottsmith@cheyennecity.org.
