State Fire Marshall Retiring

By Staff 6-28,2016

State Fire Marshal Lanny Applegate is retiring. Applegate has been State Fire Marshal since 2006. The Fire Marshal is responsible for assisting with fire prevention, electrical safety, training, inspections and fire investigations around the state.

“For the past decade, Lanny has served Wyoming well as the State’s Fire Marshal,” said Governor Mead. “I thank him for his hard work and commitment to keeping people across Wyoming safe. I wish him all the best in retirement.”

“I have been very honored to serve as the State Fire Marshal,” said Applegate. “I had the good fortune to work with the fire service in cities, towns and counties across the state since 1975. I want to thank my staff – they have been outstanding to work with and I wish them nothing but success in the future.”

Governor Mead has appointed Michael Reed to replace Applegate beginning July 1, 2016.

“Mike has extensive experience in law enforcement, administration and emergency response,” said Governor Mead. “I am confident he will do a great job as State Fire Marshal.”

Reed spent 28 years in law enforcement, including 10 years as Chief of Police in Rawlins. He has training in law enforcement, arson investigation, emergency management and incident command. He also attended the FBI National Academy and served as President of the Wyoming Sheriffs and Chiefs Association. He currently serves as a policy advisor to the Governor.

“I want to thank Governor Mead for giving me this opportunity,” said Reed. “It is an honor to be associated with such a professional state agency dedicated to the safety of Wyoming’s citizens. I look forward to meeting with community leaders and fire departments around the state.”
