CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) – Charles Curley has resigned as state secretary of the Wyoming Republican Party after being charged with simple assault in an incident involving the party’s executive director.
GOP officials had suspended Curley on March 8 and said the party’s central committee would meet to consider removing him from office.
However, Leigh Vosler, who was appointed the party’s interim secretary, announced Monday that Curley had resigned Saturday, effective immediately.
A new state secretary will be elected.
Republican officials have said an incident between Curley and GOP executive director Kristi Wallin occurred on Feb. 23.
Cheyenne police spokesman Kevin Malatesta says officers investigated a complaint by Wallin that Curley pushed her.
