Team Unity is a Big Reason for the Cowboy’s Success on Defense

The Wyoming Cowboy football team opens up their season in two-and-a-half weeks, on the road at New Mexico State.  The Wyoming defense is getting a lot of preseason pub this year, and deservedly so, as they were on of the top units in the nation last year, and return nearly everyone from that side of the ball.  One of those returners is junior defensive lineman Youhanna Ghaifan.

He has received a lot of preseason accolades individually, but that doesn’t mean anything to him, “As long as our team is winning, and we have a chance to get to the Mountain West championship, that’s all that matters.  The individual stuff comes into play, but I really don’t look into it, or care about it too much.”

As far as the Cowboys’ success on the field, Ghaifan says that it’s their relationship off of it, that really sets the tone for the Wyoming defense, “We generally like each other on the defense.  We’ve got some athletes defensively, but more importantly we play together.  With our rush lanes, me and Carl (Granderson), Sidney (Malauulu), KP (Kevin Prosser), Josiah (Hall).  With the linebackers making us right on run fits, and the safety, Dewey (Andrew Wingard) coming downhill, it’s a group that plays together. That’s what makes us great.”

The Cowboys open the year August 25th, on the road at New Mexico State.  Kickoff is set for 8 pm.
