Coal is on the minds of candidates for Wyoming’s seat in the U.S. House.
They were in Cheyenne on Friday for a Laramie County Republican Party gathering.
Liz Cheney says federal regulations on coal have hurt Wyoming more than any other state. That includes a recent moratorium on federal coal leasing as well as climate-change regulations.
Northwest College instructor Mike Konsmo wants to lift the moratorium but also diversify Wyoming’s economy. State Sen. Leland Christensen says federal regulations on coal and elsewhere have been downright abusive.
State Rep. Tim Stubson says the U.S. can’t turn its back on coal. He would work with coalitions of lawmakers to advance Wyoming’s interests in Congress.
Nine Republicans are competing to replace Republican Rep. Cynthia Lummis when she retires next year.
